It may not be biological
Or may be even logical
But you can be a mother to me.
It may not be by the book.
But maybe it's worth a second look.
You can be a mother to me.
If you want you can breast-feed me
Tell me I can be what I want to be
You can be a mother to me.
You can dress me in knickers
If it will make you glad.
You can treat me like Oedipus
If you want to be real bad.
So let's open it up
So you won't feel so sad.
You can be a mother to me.
(INITIALLY THIS POEM PISSED ME OFF, BECAUSE I WAS FEELING REALLY
UPSET THAT CHEMO PUT ME IN EARLY MENOPAUSE. BUT THIS WAS SCOTT,
MY HUSBAND'S, WAY OF DEALING WITH IT. AND NOW I CAN LOOK BACK
ON IT AND SAY, "OKAY HE WROTE ME A POEM. ISN'T THAT GREAT,
BUT I STILL AM ANNOYED." SOUR GRAPES. SEE, I AM HUMAN AND
SO ARE YOU
) Note: .I JUST SHOWED MY HUSBAND THIS NOTE
AND HE HAD TO SAY: "THAT'S NOT EXACTLY ROBERT FROST, BUT
I SEEMED A LITTLE LOST. SEEMS LIKE I WAS BEING A 'MUTHA' TO
HER!" See, just a little retroactive communication and
we are laughing about it now!!!!
ANOTHER POEM FROM SCOTT:
I HAVE NO FLOWERS
BUT I HAVE A HEART
I HAVE NO SOIL
BUT I HAVE A SOUL
THE SEEDS YOU'VE PLANTED
HAVE STARTED TO GROW
STARTED TO BLOSSOM
I HAVE NO FLOWERS
BUT WHEN YOU SEE ME
MY SMILE HOLDS A BOUQUET
THE FOLLOWING IS A POEM I
WROTE FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS AT THE BEGINNING OF MY TREATMENT:
A PRAYER FOR THE DOUBLE BLUE MOON
- Devorah Cutler-Rubenstein
I DREAM THE DREAM OF A THOUSAND MAIDENS
TIRED OF THE KING'S BIDDING
THE PROCESSION TO THE FOUNTAIN TAKES US
TO SLEEP OF OTHER THINGS
CLENSE THE SACRED PLACE
THAT WAITS FOR US
TO MOVE AGAIN
I ASK YOU MOON TO HEAL ME
TO FILL ME UP WITH YOUR MOONMOTHER'S LOVE
THE MOTHERS OF ALL LIFETIMES SAY ITS SO
IT IS NOT WRITTEN BUT IS
ALL THE WOUNDS, SCARS AND FEVERS
SILENCED BY THE FOG IN RINGS AROUND YOU
I TAKE IN YOUR MOON-NURTURERING
I OPENLY RECEIVE THE LOVE THAT IS MISSING
I AM WHOLE. I AM LOVED. LOVEABLE ME.
TAKE ME INTO YOUR LAP
HOLD MY WEARY HEAD WITH YOUR WHITE ARMS
SOUND YOUR SILENCE IN MY EARS
YOUR MOTIONLESS WIND BLOWS ACROST MY FACE
MY NOSTRILS FLARE WITH THE SMELL OF JASMINE
IT IS A NEW SPRING FOR ME. FOR US.
ENTER NOW THE WOMB OF THE MOTHER
A THOUSAND DREAMS IN HER DRIED BLUE BLOOD
BORN OF THE SCARS-NO-MORE
ANGRY SUN IS FAR GONE, SOOTHED BY THE COOL NIGHT
SLEEP THOSE DREAMS, THEY ARE THE THINGS YOU WANT
THERE IS NO OTHER
IS THAT A CHARIOT IN MY GARDEN
NO A RESTLESS COCKROCH
ITS WINGS GLARE AT THE MOON
IT DREAMS OUR DREAMS AS WE COMMAND IT
ALL CREATURES SUPPORT OUR INTENTIONS
ALL LIVING THINGS BREATHE OUR SONG
PREPARE NO MORE
THE DAY IS HERE
LISTEN FOR YOUR DREAMS HAVE BEEN DREAMT
YOUR FIRES ARE NO LONGER BURNING
RELAX NOW. THE RIVER TAKES YOU WHERE YOU WANT TO GO.
I DREAM OF POPSICLES+
FANTASTIC HORSES WITH BLUE MANES
PRANCING PRAYING MANTIS WRITES MY NAME ON A CLOUD
I TOO FIND A LEAF AND DRINK THE MIDNIGHT DEW
MY LOVE FOR ME IS CONSTANT
IRREFUTABLE. ALWAYS AVAILABLE. EFFORTLESSLY HEALING.
THE OMNIPRESENT WOUND-NO-MORE
MY RICHES FILL ME UP
THANK YOU MOON MOTHER
THANK YOU FOR THE DOUBLE BLUE MOON
I COME TO YOU AND AM HEALED
